3DW: Desktop BG #2-3
Note: It’s been a pretty busy week with client work so I’m posting this week’s #2 and #3 design together. Starting next week, I’ll do my best to consistently post the 3DW designs on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays throughout the year.
Generic Desktop Background #2 – 1280 x 1024 (40KB)

Huh? You mean this isn’t a stock background? I know… it looks an awful lot like the ones pre-packaged with your pc, laptop, or mac. I’ve never been very good at abstract pieces using just shapes so I followed a tutorial to create this one.
Essentially, the design utilizes a lot of layer transparencies and blending modes.
Desktop Background #3, “Pieces of Flair” – 1280 x 1024 (1.06MB)

C’mon now, admit it. Anyone who grew up in the 80′s had a moment where they went through a jean jacket + button phase.
This was a fun one to work on. I’ve created paper textured backgrounds (as evident here on the website), but I haven’t taken a crack at fabrics. By following a couple of different tutorials online, and combining the end results, I was able to produce this pretty snazzy desktop background.
The lighting/shading could be better, but I’m pleased with the result nonetheless.
Until next week…
